Huntington Learning Center Awards Franchise to Nonprofit Organization Hands On Hartford first nonprofit franchisee in Huntington's 32-year history Oradell, New Jersey, September 16, 2009 - Huntington Learning Center, a pioneer in the supplemental education industry, announced today that it has awarded a franchise agreement to Hands On Hartford, a Hartford-based social services nonprofit agency that specializes in creating volunteer opportunities in the Hartford area. Hands On Hartford will provide free tutoring services to Hartford, Connecticut students. The program will be funded with federal Title I grants provided by the No Child Left Behind Act. "Hands On Hartford has strong leadership and is a wonderful organization that provides valuable services to the Hartford, Connecticut community," said Russell Miller, Huntington's vice president of business development. "We are thrilled to have them as a franchisee and believe this will be a winning venture for both of us, and more importantly, an extremely beneficial program for the underprivileged students they tutor." The Hands On Hartford franchise is the first nonprofit-owned franchise in Huntington's 32-year history. According to Sudell, Hands On Hartford performed a thorough market analysis to identify a franchise opportunity that was closely aligned with the organization's goals and would generate additional revenues for the nonprofit—the groundbreaking "social franchising" concept. "In our quest to leverage the power of a franchise to further Hands on Hartford's mission, we did an extensive nationwide search and looked at many different franchise concepts, and Huntington came out on top," said Sudell.
